Episolve GI acts as a medium acting antacid heartburn supplement.
Short term supplements and drugs, such as tums and other common antacids, work from a matter of seconds to a matter of minutes.
Long term antacids start acting within an hour and continue on for multiple hours into the day (8-24hr) by reducing acid production. Common prescription drugs for long term relief include proton pump inhibitors (e.g. Nexium , Omeprazole and Protonix) and H2 antagonists (e.g. Pepcid, Raniditine and Cimetidine).
Medium acting antacids act within minutes and continue to act for a few hours (up to 6hr). Episovle GI is medium-acting antacid. It is a SUSPENSION of olive oil and calcium carbonate.
EpisolveGI, as a supplement, should be taken during the time of day or night when symptoms are known to be at their worst. Therefore, it can be used as preventive measure such as after dinner and prior to sleep in order to alleviate overnight acid reflux and morning acid mouth sensation. It can also be taken at the end of a high protein meal, which is known to worsen GERD. The usual dose is about 2-4 capsules per meal. Additional doses can be taken, but should not exceed 12 capsules per day.
Disclaimer : EpisolveGI is a dietary supplement and, as the name implies, is a supplement to health products and traditional medicine. It is not meant to replace traditional treatment and medications such as proton pump inhibitors. Please check with your doctor.
